Product Information
1,2,8-Octanetriol is a chemical compound that is a type of alcohol. It can be synthesized by the reduction of 1,2-dihydroxyoctane with sodium borohydride or lithium aluminium hydride. The yield depends on the procedure used. In vivo studies have shown that 1,2,8-octanetriol has protective effects against hemoglobin oxidation and efficient methods for its synthesis have been developed. This chemical also inhibits the production of bilirubin in liver cells and reduces serum bilirubin levels in rats. It is also an alcohol that reacts with proton to form catalytic species such as hydroxyl radicals and hydrogen peroxide. Parameters such as pH and temperature affect this reaction.
