Product Information
Carbazole is a heterocyclic compound that is formed by the Suzuki coupling reaction between an aldehyde and an amine, which are both present in the reaction mixture. The carbazole skeleton is composed of a six-membered ring with two nitrogen atoms and two hydroxyl groups on opposite sides of the ring. Carbazole has been shown to have antioxidative properties, inhibiting lipid peroxidation through its ability to scavenge free radicals such as reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS). Carbazole also has biochemical properties that include antibacterial activity. This property may be due to its ability to inhibit protein synthesis or disrupt cell membrane integrity.
Carbazole has been shown to have bactericidal effects against wild-type strains of Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis at concentrations of 10 µg/mL. Carbazole also shows significant antibacterial activity against Mycobacterium smegmat
