6-Bromo-1H-indene is an alkylating agent that can be used to introduce bromine into biomolecules. 6-Bromo-1H-indene is a potential bioisostere for naphthalene and can be used in the synthesis of indenes. 6-Bromo-1H-indene undergoes dehydration to produce a mixture of (E)-2,5-dibromoindane and (Z)-2,5-dibromoindane. The mechanistic pathway for this reaction is still unclear but may involve hydrogenations or stereochemical changes.
6-Bromo-1H-indene also has interesting chiral properties because it reacts differently with different ligands.
