Ethyl 5-fluoro-1H-imidazole-4-carboxylate is a photochemical intermediate used in the synthesis of imidazole derivatives. It can be produced by the enantioselective alkylation of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate with ethyl bromoacetate and subsequent photochemical decomposition. The intermediates are liquids, which can be stored in an ionic liquid or ionic crystal. Ethyl 5-fluoro-1H-imidazole-4-carboxylate has a wavelength of 340 nm and is soluble in water.
