Ethyl 2-sulfanylbenzoate is a divalent hydrocarbon that is used as a polymerization initiator for the production of polymers. This compound can be synthesized by amination of chlorothiophenol and organic nitrate, followed by esterification with fatty acid. It has bactericidal activity against gram-positive bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes, but not against gram-negative bacteria. Ethyl 2-sulfanylbenzoate is used to treat brain imaging and treatment methods in organic solvents.
