Product Information
5-Iodonicotinamide is a radioiodinated piperazine derivative that has been shown to have high uptake in malignant tissues. 5-Iodonicotinamide has been used as a radiolabeled probe to study the biodistribution of iodine-containing compounds in animals. The distribution of radioactivity is predominately in the skin, lungs, and liver. 5-Iodonicotinamide also interacts with melanin and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD). It binds to melanin due to its structural similarity with the amino acid tyrosine. This binding results in a decrease of NAD levels, which may be responsible for its antitumor effects.
