Methyl 1,2-dihydropyridine-1-carboxylate is an osmotic, water-soluble drug that is used as a proton pump inhibitor in the treatment of acid reflux. This drug is administered transdermally as microcapsules to avoid first-pass metabolism. It may be used in combination with other drugs such as sucralfate and omeprazole. Methyl 1,2-dihydropyridine-1-carboxylate has been shown to have a high dissolution rate and excellent bioavailability. It is eliminated from the body mainly through renal excretion. This drug may cause side effects such as headache, dizziness, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
