N-Phenethylmethanesulphonamide is an experimental nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that inhibits the function of cyclooxygenase. It has been shown to decrease systolic and diastolic blood pressure in dogs and rabbits. The mechanism of action is not fully understood, but it may be due to the inhibition of angiogenesis and α1-acid glycoprotein production. N-Phenethylmethanesulphonamide also has a significant effect on renal function, decreasing glomerular filtration rate and proximal tubule cell photosynthetic activity. There is no evidence that this drug has carcinogenic properties or induces trigeminal nerve damage.
