Description:

2-Propyl-1-pentanol is a fatty alcohol that belongs to the class of aliphatic alcohols. It is an intermediate in the synthesis of a variety of chemicals, including fatty acids and lipid peroxides. 2-Propyl-1-pentanol has been detected in human plasma and urine as a marker for coeliac disease as well as being used to detect cytochrome P450 enzymes. This molecule can be synthesized from pentanal by reacting it with hydrogen peroxide, which generates a hydroxyl group on the terminal carbon atom. The reaction time and amount of deuterium isotope are factors that affect the yield of 2-propyl-1-pentanol.
