Methyl thiophene-3-acetate is a polymerizable monomer with the chemical formula CH3COC6H4CO2CH=CH2. It is soluble in acetonitrile and can be polymerized at temperatures between 50°C to 60°C. Methyl thiophene-3-acetate has the centroid of its atoms at a distance of 1.41 Å from each other, which is typical for 3-thiopheneacetic acid. The methyl group is located on one side of the molecule and the acetate group on the opposite side. The methyl group also has a hydrogen bond with one of the carbonyl groups, which are connected to each other by an oxygen atom. FTIR spectroscopy revealed that this monomer forms copolymers with styrene, chloroprene, or butadiene under reactive conditions.
