5-Chloro-6-nitroquinoline is a nitro, oxadiazolone, and nitroso compound that contains an anomalous nitro group. It has been synthesized by the reaction of 5-chloro-2-nitrobenzene with sodium hydroxide. The synthesis proceeds through two steps. The first step is the formation of a diazonium salt from 5-chloro-2-nitrobenzene and sodium hydroxide. The second step is the cyclization reaction to form 5-chloro-6-nitroquinoline. Kinetic studies have been conducted on this compound in order to better understand its reactivity.
