Product Information
Diflunisal is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that has been found to be a reversible inhibitor of the enzyme cytochrome P450. The pharmacological activity of diflunisal is attributable to its acyl glucuronide, which binds reversibly to fatty acids in human serum and tissues. Diflunisal also binds covalently with proteins such as albumin, leading to irreversible binding and the formation of adducts. The major human metabolites are saccharolactone and 5-hydroxydiflunisal (5HDF). These metabolites are excreted by the kidneys and can be detected in urine for up to 3 days after ingestion. Diflunisal has been shown to have anti-arthritic effects in animal models. It may also have beneficial effects on Alzheimer's Disease through its ability to increase acetylcholine levels in the brain.
