Product Information
- 2-Iodo-Isonicotinic Acid
2-Iodoisonicotinic acid is a molecule that has been shown to be highly selective for bacterial cells, with no significant effects on mammalian cells. It binds to nucleophilic centers in bacterial DNA, inhibiting the synthesis of RNA and proteins. 2-Iodoisonicotinic acid also inhibits the growth of tumor cells, including glioma (brain cancer), through its ability to inhibit protein synthesis. This molecule has been investigated as a radiotracer for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging and as a diagnostic marker for tuberculosis. 2-Iodoisonicotinic acid is used to treat tuberculosis by interfering with the synthesis of mycolate, an essential component of the cell wall of Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
