This compound inhibits the growth of many types of plants and is classified as an agrochemical. 2-(Pyridin-2-yloxy)acetic acid is not very irritant and its synthetic nature makes it suitable for use in postharvest applications. It can be used to control fatty acids and other plant constituents that are responsible for fruit softening, such as calyxes.
