2,6-Dichloropyridine-3-carboxylic chloride (2,6-DCPC) is a white to pale yellow solid that is soluble in ether and ethyl acetate. It is a 1,3-dicarbonyl compound with a propanoic acid group. This substance can be made by reacting propanoic acid with ethylamine hydrochloride in the presence of hydrogen chloride gas and potassium hydroxide. The reaction will produce 2,6-DCPC as the main product. It can also be prepared by the chlorination of 2,6 dichloropyridine in an acylation reaction with anhydrous magnesium chloride.
