The chemical structure of lamotrigine includes two 2,3-dichlorophenyl groups connected by an amino group (guanidinoimino). This structure gives lamotrigine its chemical name: 2-(2,3-dichlorophenyl)-2-(guanidinoimino) acetonitrile.
