6-Methoxy-2-pyridinecarbonitrile is a synthetic compound with a pyrrole ring. It can be synthesized by oxidation of 2,6-dimethoxypyridine with nitric acid. 6-Methoxy-2-pyridinecarbonitrile has been shown to be an analogue of camptothecin and mappicine. This compound has been used in the synthesis of nothapodytine, which is a tetracyclic alkaloid that exhibits anticancer activity. The major drawback to this compound is the low yields achieved when synthesizing it.
