Description:

SPQ is a coumarin derivative that is used as an experimental fluorescent probe to study the physiological properties of cells in culture. It has been shown to increase the light emission of the cell when it binds to the red cell membrane. The fluorescence intensity increases as a function of concentration, and SPQ can be used as a sensitive indicator for membrane integrity. This chemical is stable at pH 7 and shows no significant effects on cellular metabolism. In addition, it has been shown that SPQ can be used in detergent compositions to measure energy metabolism or to determine body mass index.
