7-Epi lincomycin is an antimicrobial agent that belongs to the group of antibiotics. It has been used in clinical trials for the treatment of infection associated with allografts, in which bacterial translocation is a major complication. 7-Epi lincomycin binds to integrin receptors on the surface of intestinal epithelial cells, preventing bacterial adhesion and translocation. In addition, it inhibits protein synthesis by binding to ribosomes and inhibiting the production of proteins vital for cell division. The drug has shown good biocompatibility when tested on human serum and cultured human skin cells.
