Description

Enalapril maleate impurity C (E-C) is an impurity of enalapril, a drug that inhibits angiotensin-converting enzyme. It has been shown to have antihypertensive activity in animals and humans. Enalapril maleate impurity C is found in wastewater and may be used as a marker for the presence of enalapril. The bioavailability of enalaprilat, which has been shown to have similar pharmacokinetics to captopril, can be determined by measuring the plasma concentrations of E-C in blood samples. This analytical method is useful for determining whether two drugs are bioequivalent.
