Product Information
2-(2-((tert-Butoxycarbonyl)amino)-N-methylacetamido)acetic acid (BOCAA) is a peptidase inhibitor that inhibits proteolytic enzymes in the gastrointestinal tract. The affinity of BOCAA for various peptidases has been shown using caco-2 cells, which are cultured cells derived from human colonic adenocarcinoma. BOCAA binds to the active site of these proteases and blocks the cleavage of peptide bonds, preventing protein digestion and absorption. In addition, BOCAA is a substrate for several transporters in the intestine, including PEPT1 and OCTN2. This may be due to its structural properties, as it is an amide with two carboxyl groups and one amino group on each side of the molecule. This makes it structurally similar to tripeptides such as tryptophan or phenylalanine.
