Tert-Butyl(3-iodophenoxy)dimethylsilane is a potent synthetic antibiotic that inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. It has been shown to be bactericidal against Staphylococcus epidermidis, while also showing hemolytic activity. Tert-Butyl (3-iodophenoxy)dimethylsilane is active against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), but not against methicillin sensitive strains. It is not active against acid-fast bacteria such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis or Mycobacterium avium complex.
