3-Indoxyl-6-fluoro-beta-D-galactopyranoside (3IFBG) is a potent chemical inhibitor of the enzyme beta galactosidase. It is a natural product that has been shown to inhibit cancer cell growth. 3IFBG selectively inhibits the enzyme beta galactosidase, which plays a key role in the biosynthesis of monosaccharides and glycosaminoglycans. Inhibition of this enzyme can lead to tumor regression, or even tumor cell death, in some cancer cells. 3IFBG also has anti-leukemic activity when tested on human leukemia cells in vitro.
