Rac-CPPG is a glutamate receptor antagonist that binds to the cation channel of glutamate receptors. It is a low potency, noncompetitive antagonist that blocks the channel in its open state. Rac-CPPG has been shown to antagonize brain functions and locomotor activity by inhibiting neurotransmission in the hippocampus. This drug has also been shown to block ion currents in the brain, however it does not bind to the glutamate receptors on postsynaptic cells. Rac-CPPG may be used as a treatment for Parkinson's disease or other disorders involving brain function. Rac-CPPG may also be used as an immunosuppressant in organ transplantations and autoimmune diseases.
