N-[3-(1H-Imidazol-5-ylmethyl)phenyl]ethanesulfonamide is a ligand that binds to and activates the ion channel TRPV2. This compound is used in research as a tool for studying the function of ion channels. It has been shown to bind to and activate TRPV2 which is found in many cells, including human colon cancer cells. N-[3-(1H-Imidazol-5-ylmethyl)phenyl]ethanesulfonamide also binds to the receptor CXCR4 and inhibits cell proliferation, which may be due to its inhibition of protein synthesis. This active form is an agonist of the vasopressin V2 receptor and has been shown to inhibit the production of inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β, IL-6, and TNFα.
