3-Methyl-4-(methylthio)benzaldehyde is a neutralization product of benzal chloride and sodium hydroxide. It is soluble in water and has a boiling point of 190 degrees Celsius. 3-Methyl-4-(methylthio)benzaldehyde has been shown to react with amines (e.g., ammonia, methylamine, ethylamine, etc.) to form acetals and acetals. This compound reacts with alkaline solutions to produce alkaline compounds such as thiophene, benzene, and thiolate. 3-Methyl-4-(methylthio)benzaldehyde also reacts with alkaline substances to form nitrogenous compounds such as mercapto.
