DC 838 is a solid, activated metal oxide that is used as an additive in coatings for corrosion protection. It prevents corrosion by acting as a sacrificial anode and converting the corrosive substances to nontoxic gas. DC 838 has been shown to be highly selective for copper, iron oxide, and silver, with little or no activity against other metals. It's also more efficient than other metal oxides at preventing corrosion on solid substrates such as stainless steel and aluminum. The sequential oxidation of DC 838 produces a conductive film that can be applied to various substrates.
