C8-BTBT is a water-soluble molecule with two benzene rings and a BTBT moiety. It has a molecular weight of 633 g/mol, a dipole moment of 0.266 D, and an activation energy of 8.91 kcal/mol. C8-BTBT is light stable, with an emission maximum at 523 nm when it is excited by UV light. The compound has been shown to be nontoxic in the range of 100 μM to 1 mM for bacterial cells and yeast cells. C8-BTBT also has the ability to transport other molecules through membranes by binding to them as a transporter molecule or by increasing their solubility in water.
