Description:
3,4-Dihydro-9-hydroxy-[1]benzothieno[2,3-f]-1,4-thiazepin-5(2H)-one is a molecule that is structurally similar to the neurotransmitter serotonin. Its activity is mediated by the activation of the β-catenin pathway and it has been shown to inhibit inflammation in mice with inflammatory bowel disease. This drug also inhibits prostate cancer cell growth in culture and in wild type mice. 3,4-Dihydro-9-hydroxy-[1]benzothieno[2,3-f]-1,4-thiazepin-5(2H)-one binds to dextran sulfate and miapaca cells and can be used as a fluorescent probe for visualization of β-catenin translocation. It also contains a hydroxyl group on its structure that may play a role in its biological activity.
