Ferritin, equine is a protein that stores iron in the body. It is composed of 24 subunits of two types: heavy and light. Ferritin, equine is a major component of the erythrocyte membrane and can be found in many other tissues. The ferritin molecule consists of two polypeptide chains, each containing six alpha helixes. These are linked by disulfide bonds to form a stable structure with an overall molecular weight of about 450 kDa. The subunits have a molecular weight of about 50 kDa each and contain four conserved cysteines which form two interchain disulfides. This protein has been shown to contain phosphatase activity, myoglobin, casein, techniques (sephacryl), carbohydrate (amide), horse immunology biochemical staining x-ray data thermal denaturation denaturation.
