Product Information
- Hydratase, aconitate
Aconitase is an enzyme that catalyzes the reversible reaction of citrate to isocitrate. It is an iron-sulfur protein and belongs to the family of aconitases. Aconitase has been shown to inhibit gametocyte development in Plasmodium falciparum, which may be due to its ability to disrupt iron homeostasis, leading to a decrease in red blood cells. Aconitase from porcine heart was found to inhibit mitochondrial superoxide production by stabilizing mitochondrial DNA polymerase alpha. This enzyme also has regulatory functions in translation and gene expression.
