Deoxyribonuclease II (DNase II) is a protein that is produced by the pancreas and spleen cells. It is an enzyme that breaks down DNA in order to recycle its building blocks. The human body produces DNase II, which has been shown to have a role in cancer development. In healthy controls, DNase II levels are significantly higher in the kidneys than in the spleen or liver. However, patients with kidney disease show increased levels of DNase II in all tissues studied. This increase may be due to podocyte injury and subsequent release of DNase from the cells into the circulation.
Dnase II can also be found in urine samples from people with proteinuria who have not been treated for their condition. Unmethylated DNA can be detected by mass spectrometry methods when it is hybridized with an antibody specific for methylated DNA. Dnase II can also be detected using mass spectrometric techniques.END>>
