It has been found in the plant Sinigrin and is present in the average concentration of 0.01% (weight/weight). 6-Methylsulfanylnorleucine is stable when heated and does not undergo any reactions with water or light. There are two tautomers for this molecule, one of which exists in equilibrium with the other, at a ratio of 1:1. The heritability of 6-Methylsulfanylnorleucine has been shown to be high and it has a strong correlation with progoitrin levels.
