1,2-Bis(3,4-dimethylphenyl)ethane is an inorganic compound with a molecular formula of CH (CH). It has a melting point of -51.2°C and a boiling point of 113.8°C. The ethane molecule can be analysed at temperatures between -30°C and 100°C. 1,2-Bis(3,4-dimethylphenyl)ethane is prepared by the alkylation of ammonium chloride with hexane at temperatures between 25°C and 50°C. The isolated yield for the reaction is about 85%. The product can be used as a solvent in ionic liquids or recycled to produce more 1,2-bis(3,4-dimethylphenyl)ethane. This chemical is also used as an intermediate for other organic compounds such as ethylpyridine and dimethylphenyl chloride.
