Description:
3-Benzyl-5,5-dimethylimidazolidine-2,4-dione is an adjuvant that has been shown to be effective in the prevention of staphylococcus infection. It is a synthetic compound that can be used as a replacement for erythromycin and other antibiotics. 3-Benzyl-5,5-dimethylimidazolidine-2,4-dione binds to bacterial membrane proteins through hydrophobic interactions and forms pores in the cell membrane. This pore formation leads to bacterial death by inhibiting the transport of nutrients into the cell or the transport of cellular waste products out of the cell. 3-Benzyl-5,5-dimethylimidazolidine-2,4-dione also inhibits efflux pump activity in Staphylococcus epidermidis isolates.
