Description:
Rac-trans-permethrinic acid is the major metabolite of permethrin, a synthetic pyrethroid pesticide. This compound is produced in vivo from the parent molecule and is excreted in human urine. Rac-trans-permethrinic acid exhibits low toxicity to mammals, but has been shown to be more toxic than permethrin in vitro and ex vivo studies. Rac-trans-permethrinic acid may be used as a biomarker for human exposure to permethrin.
