Product Information
2-Chloro-N,N-dimethylpyridin-4-amine is an amide that is the result of a reaction between formaldehyde and 2-chloropyridine. It has been shown to have antibiotic properties and is used in the synthesis of aziridines, which are active against bacteria. Mechanistic studies have shown that it undergoes a catalytic aziridination process whereby it reacts with an alkene to form an intermediate aziridine. The amine group then attacks the C=O bond, cleaving it and releasing water. This process forms a substituted pyridine ring as a final product.
