1-Methyl-2-phenyl-1H-indole-3-carboxylic acid is an indole that can be synthesized from 2,3,4,5,6-pentafluorobenzaldehyde and 3,4-dihydrobenzo[b]furan. This compound can also be synthesized by the decarboxylative coupling of 1-(pyridinium)carboxylic acid with aryl bromide or chloride. The synthesis of this compound is not limited to these two methods and many other methods have been reported. The heteroaromatic ring in this compound may be accessed via an arylation reaction with an aryl halide or carbenes. A variety of functional groups are present in this compound including carboxylic acids and decarboxylative groups.
