8(14),15-Isopimaradiene-3β,18-diol is a terpene that has been shown to produce antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria. 8(14),15-Isopimaradiene-3β,18-diol is a phytoalexin, or secondary metabolite, that is produced by plants in response to stress conditions such as bacterial invasion. This compound has been shown to inhibit the biosynthesis of diphosphate synthase and cellular growth. 8(14),15-Isopimaradiene-3β, 18-diol also inhibits the synthesis of momilactone and oryzalexin. These two compounds are also phytoalexins that are produced by rice plants in response to environmental pollution. The expression of this gene can be induced by sequences from the bacterial genera Piricularia and Bacillus.
