Description:
3-Nitropyridine-2-carboxamide is a hydrolysis product of nitrofurantoin. It is an analogue of this drug, which has been shown to be more potent than the parent compound in inhibiting the growth of coccidial oocysts. 3-Nitropyridine-2-carboxamide also has anticoccidial activity, which may be due to its ability to inhibit sporulation and development. This compound can be synthesized by the dehydration of acyl derivatives or the reaction between acid chlorides and amines.
