3-Amino-4H-chromen-4-one is a chemical that has an anticancer activity. It can be synthesized by refluxing 3-amino-1,2,4-benzotriazole with 2,6-dimethylaniline and ethyl acetate. This compound is an iminium salt that reacts with the dimethylamine to form a 1,2,4-triazole ring.
The active form is thermally activated and induces DNA damage and apoptosis in cancer cells. The anticancer activity of this compound may be due to its ability to inhibit protein synthesis by competitive inhibition of ribosomes or as a result of reactive oxygen species production. 3-Amino-4H-chromen-4-one also inhibits the enzyme c1 - 6 alkyl reductase which converts cholesterol into bile acid
