D,L-Gabaculine, hydrochloride is a naturally occurring compound derived from chlorophyll. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of enzyme aminotransferase and to have antimicrobial activity against gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus. Furthermore, it has been shown to inhibit various glutamate receptors and to target enzymes that are important for glutamine metabolism. D,L-Gabaculine, hydrochloride has been detected in human urine and blood plasma at low levels (1-2 ng/mL). The structural analysis of this compound reveals that it is a D,L-gabaculine dihydrochloride with a molecular weight of 285.30 g/mol.
