Product Information
- L-Cysteine, N-acetyl-, ethyl ester
- N-Acetyl-L-cysteine ethyl ester
N-Acetyl-L-cysteine ethyl ester is a reactive compound that reacts with nitrous acid to produce an intermediate, N-acetyl-L-cysteine methyl ester. This reaction is reversible and proceeds according to the following chemical equation: NACCH + HONO → NACCHO + HNO NACCHO + NO → NACCHNO + NO NACCHNO + HONO → NACCHO + HNO The reaction mechanism is based on the formation of an acetic acid derivative from the reaction of glutathione ethyl ester with nitrous acid. The intermediate, N-acetyl-L-cysteine methyl ester, reacts with intracellular levels of n-nitro-l-arginine methyl ester (a potent neurotoxin) to produce the corresponding amino acid derivative and formaldehyde. This reaction is catalyzed by neuronal death, low bioavailability and
