Imexon is a human immunoglobulin that binds to cancer cells and has significant cytotoxic activity. Imexon blocks the binding of nuclear DNA to response elements, which prevents the initiation of transcription. Imexon also induces apoptosis in myeloma cells by promoting the expression of proteins that activate the mitochondrial pathway and the release of cytochrome c. This drug also inhibits polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and DNA synthesis in myeloma cell lines, such as miapaca-2 and dinucleotide phosphate (DNP). Imexon has been shown to bind to specific dinucleotide phosphate sequences in dna, which is a potential mechanism for its anti-cancer properties.
