Sarracenin is a natural product that belongs to the group of asperulosidic acid. It has been shown to have antitumour activity in vitro and in vivo. Sarracenin has been shown to inhibit the growth of cervical cancer cells, which may be due to its ability to induce apoptosis. Sarracenin is found in plants belonging to the family of Sapindaceae and Apocynaceae. The 2-d nmr spectra of sarracenin are similar to those of loganic, which is a chemical substance isolated from the genus Logania.
