Description:
Octanoic acid-1-13C is a non-radioactive isotope of carbon used as a diagnostic tool. This compound is synthesized by the hydrocarboxylation of octanoic acid and has been shown to be an excellent tracer for diagnosing metabolic functions in animals. The 13C isotope is used to measure the utilisation of octanoic acid and, when administered orally, can be traced through the animal's metabolism. Octanoic acid-1-13C can also be used as a feed additive to increase the production of milk or meat in livestock.
