Methyl 2,4-dimethyl-3-oxopentanoate is an organic compound that belongs to the class of ethylhexanol. Methyl 2,4-dimethyl-3-oxopentanoate has been shown to be effective in vitro for the diagnosis of bronchial cancer. It can be detected by mass spectrometric techniques and by gas chromatography with a stereoselective detector. It has been found to inhibit cancer cell growth and lung fibroblast proliferation in culture. The uptake of methyl 2,4-dimethyl-3-oxopentanoate in lung fibroblasts was observed using kinetic analysis and its effects on cancer cells were studied using focus technique.
