Product Information

Name:
Ethyl 3-(2-Bromophenyl)-2-cyanoacrylate
Synonyms:
  • Cinnamic acid, o-bromo-.alpha.-cyano-, ethyl ester
  • Ethyl 3-(2-bromophenyl)-2-cyanoacrylate
Description:

Ethyl 3-(2-Bromophenyl)-2-cyanoacrylate is a regioselective synthesis of methylene quinolines. This reaction is an intramolecular cyclization, where the carbon atom in the methylene group of an aldehyde or ketone reacts with the nitrogen atom of the quinoline ring to form a six-membered ring. The reductive amination of nitriles to form amides can also be achieved using ethyl 3-(2-bromophenyl)-2-cyanoacrylate as a reducing agent. Reductive amination is an organic reaction that involves conversion of a nitrile to an amide via reduction with hydrogen over a metal catalyst.
