Thieno[2,3-b]pyrazine-6-carboxylic acid is a carboxylic acid that has the appealing property of being an additive in carbonaceous systems. It has been shown to be a good substitute for pyridine-2-carboxylic acid, with the added benefit of having substituents that are heteroatoms such as sulfur and nitrogen. Thieno[2,3-b]pyrazine-6-carboxylic acid is also tricyclic and unsymmetrical, which makes it more interesting for catalytic systems.
