6-(4-(1H-Imidazol-1-yl)phenyl)-4,5-dihydropyridazin-3(2H)-one (ITX) is an inhibitor of protein methyltransferases that has been shown to have therapeutic effects in bowel disease, cardiac diseases, and cancer. ITX inhibits the production of epidermal growth factor by binding to the catalytic site of protein methyltransferase. In addition, ITX has been shown to inhibit surface glycoprotein expression on human papillary muscle cells. The structural analysis of ITX has been studied using x-ray crystallography and molecular modeling.
